Tutu built his name on chanteo: raw freestyles and an aggressive delivery that made him one of the young names in Puerto Rican trap. On "MAUI," his new single with Full Harmony, he slows down and goes melodic. He frames it himself as a range test. "I can make music in any rhythm," he wrote announcing the track. "MAUI" is the proof.
The single is out today. It pairs Tutu, part of Casper Mágico's Los Mágicos collective, with Full Harmony, the Puerto Rican production house behind the beat. Production comes from Bebi and Mister Lopez, the duo who work inside Full Harmony as Since2020.
Who is Tutu?
Luis Januel Roldán Montalvo, 18, started like a lot of the scene: recording freestyles and posting them as a teenager. Casper Mágico saw the clips and brought him into Los Mágicos, his collective. Tutu's base is chanteo, street trap with no polish, closer to the underground than to pop-urbano. He sits near 1.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with tracks like "Hospeda" (with TORRRES), "TATE QUIETA," and "Muñequita" in the millions of streams.
Before music he came out of basketball, a BSN celebrity-game MVP, and his 2024 debut "ALLEY OOP" nodded to it. In two years he went from freestyles to collabs with Noriel ("Contrato") and Miami-Colombian artist Vale Pintos ("Hoodie & Backpack," 2025), a pairing EARMILK covered.
Why a chanteo rapper goes melodic
A trap artist known for going hard putting out a melodic, romantic record tests how far his audience follows. Tutu put it in his own words: he made the song "from the bottom of my heart," for "all those muñequitas" who see themselves in it. Moving his register this early has catalog logic. Chanteo gave him a name but ties him to one kind of record. Melody opens an audience street trap doesn't always reach, without making him drop the style that got him here.
Full Harmony behind the board
Full Harmony carries weight in Puerto Rico. Manager Siggy Vázquez and producer Yannc (Jean Carlos Hernández Espinell) founded it, with a writing credit on Myke Towers' "LALA" and work alongside Ozuna, Wisin, and Natti Natasha. Bebi and Mister Lopez, producing as Since2020, built "MAUI."
From "Muñequita" to "MAUI"
This is not Tutu's first time with Full Harmony. "Muñequita," one of his most-played tracks, came out of the same chemistry. "MAUI" picks the thread back up, down to the word: he is talking to "those muñequitas" again, now from a melodic side. Sticking with the same team is how a sound gets built.
What it signals
Early versatility is becoming the norm for the new wave of Puerto Rican urbano. One sound is not enough anymore. An artist who can move between chanteo and melody has more room to last. "MAUI" is Tutu playing that card at 18, with a serious house behind him and without dropping what got him here. If it lands, it is the proof that the range is real.
