Jota Rosa sings on "Detective," his new single with Álvaro Díaz

Jota Rosa has produced for other people for close to ten years. "Tarot" and "Party" on Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti. Selena Gomez's Revelación. Young Miko's Att. Work with Rauw Alejandro, Feid and J Balvin. "Detective," out September 10 with Álvaro Díaz, is his own single, and he sings on it.

The song is about trying to read someone who is pulling away. The signals stop matching, and the narrator goes over every detail looking for the one that explains it. When you don't have answers, you start looking for signs everywhere.

It is alternative urbano with some pop in it, quiet and close. The beat stays steady and gives the vocals the room. Jota treats his own voice like any other part he would produce, and Álvaro Díaz keeps the song turned inward.

Producing a singer and being the singer are different jobs. For years Jota built tracks around someone else's take. This one is built around his.

The two have worked together before. Álvaro was on CLUB16: Jota Rosa Presenta Vol. 2 in 2023, with Young Miko, Feid and Paopao. Álvaro put out Omakase in May, sixteen tracks with Tainy, Rubí and Latin Mafia on it, and he has three Latin Grammy nominations.

Jota is Abner Cordero Boria, from Los Dominicos in Bayamón. He told Primera Hora in 2023 that he worked about ten years in a warehouse before moving to Miami around 2019 with nothing lined up. His grandfather was the cuatrista and composer Roque Navarro. Un Verano Sin Ti got a Latin Grammy nomination for Album of the Year in 2022. He also has credits on J Balvin's JOSE.

"Detective" is the first song of a project he is calling Un pajarito me dijo…, described as sitting between the alternative and the poetic.
