The most common gift problem in music is finding something that's actually useful to a working artist rather than decorative or well-intentioned but irrelevant. Books about the music industry get read once. Gift cards to music stores are fine if the artist needs physical gear. A subscription to the platform they use to run their professional career is something they'll use every day.
BCKSTG Gift Pro is a gifted subscription to BCKSTG's Pro plan — the full professional tier of the platform. Here's what the recipient gets and how the process works.
What BCKSTG Pro includes
A BCKSTG Pro subscription unlocks the full artist platform: the fan page at bckstg.co/handle, email list management and campaign blasting, Apple Music pre-adds live (Spotify Countdown Pages currently in Development Mode pending extended quota approval), tour date management with MasterTour sync and Ticketmaster/Eventbrite integration, Track Vault with Leak Trace for watermarked demo sharing, the Release Kit (DSP editorial pitch generation, press release, and one-sheet), streaming royalty analytics from DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, Amuse, UnitedMasters, LANDR, paid content with 0% platform fee (standard Stripe processing 2.9% + 30¢ applies), Shopify merch integration, and a custom domain option (requires approval).
At $12/month or $120/year, Pro is what a working independent artist needs to run the operational side of a music career in one place.
Who it's for
Any artist who is actively releasing music, touring, building an audience, or managing their professional presence independently. That's most working independent artists — artists who are not signed to a major label that handles their marketing infrastructure, which means they're building and managing everything themselves.
If you know an artist at any stage of their career — from releasing their first EP to a decade into a regional touring career — the tools in Pro cover the work they're already doing in scattered subscriptions and manual processes.
How the gifting process works
Gift Pro is purchased at bckstg.co/gift. The buyer selects the gift duration — monthly or annual — and completes the purchase. A redemption code is generated and delivered to the buyer, who forwards it to the recipient.
The recipient redeems the code at bckstg.co and creates or logs into their account. Pro activates immediately upon redemption. The recipient's existing account (if they have one) upgrades to Pro for the gift duration. If they're new to BCKSTG, the gift starts their Pro account from day one.
No credit card is required from the recipient to redeem. The gift duration runs from the redemption date — if you buy it in December but the recipient redeems it in January, they get the full duration from January.
The redemption email experience
When the buyer purchases Gift Pro, the redemption code and instructions arrive by email within a few minutes. The email contains the code, a direct redemption link, and the personalized message the buyer included at checkout (if any).
The buyer typically forwards this email to the recipient — either directly from their inbox or by copying the code into a separate message. Some buyers print the email and include it inside a card. Others wait until a specific occasion (birthday, holiday, release party) before passing the code along.
The recipient's experience starts with that email. The redemption link drops them directly onto the BCKSTG redemption page with the code pre-filled, so the action required is: create an account (or log in to an existing one) and confirm. Pro activates on confirmation. The recipient gets a welcome email a few seconds later acknowledging the upgrade and pointing them to the first onboarding steps.
If a gift code goes unredeemed for more than 30 days, BCKSTG sends a reminder to the buyer's email so they can follow up with the recipient. Codes do not expire automatically — they remain redeemable until used.
When Gift Pro makes sense as a gift
The gift makes sense in specific situations more than as a generic gift idea.
For a friend or family member who's making music. They're investing in their own career. A year of BCKSTG Pro is a year of operational infrastructure they don't have to budget for themselves. This is the most common use case.
For a band you've collaborated with. Co-writers, frequent collaborators, or band members in your wider musical network — a gift subscription is a tangible acknowledgment of the relationship.
For a graduate of a music program. Music students leaving school often face the gap between academic preparation and professional infrastructure. A Pro subscription is the toolkit for the professional career they're starting.
As a label welcome gift to a new signing. Labels sometimes use gifted Pro subscriptions as part of welcoming new artists to the roster — establishing immediate access to professional tools and signaling the label's investment.
As a release celebration gift. When an artist in your circle releases an album, EP, or single, a Pro subscription is the operational gift that keeps producing returns long after the release week.
As a holiday or milestone gift. Birthday, holiday, anniversary. The recipient gets a year of useful infrastructure rather than a card-and-cash transaction.
When you've benefited from someone's work and want to give back. Producers, engineers, and session players often work in service of other artists' releases. A Pro subscription for their own project is a way to acknowledge that work materially.
What the recipient should do first after redeeming
Pro activates immediately, but the platform produces the most value when the first few setup steps are done deliberately. Recommended first actions:
- Claim the handle. Pick the username at bckstg.co/handle. This becomes the public fan page URL — the link that goes into every Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube bio. Pick the handle that matches the artist's project name; secondary handles can be claimed later if needed.
- Build the fan page. Add the hero artwork, the bio, the social links, the upcoming releases and shows. The fan page is the primary public surface — fans clicking from social will land here, so it's worth spending an afternoon on it before sending traffic.
- Connect distributor analytics. Link the DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, Amuse, UnitedMasters, or LANDR account so streaming royalty data flows in automatically. This is the data that turns into the analytics dashboard.
- Import any existing mailing list. Export from Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Substack, or wherever the current list lives, then import the CSV into the BCKSTG Guest List. New signups from the fan page will land in the same place.
- Set up the next release in the Release Kit. Even if there's no immediate release planned, drafting a placeholder release helps walk through the Release Kit's pitch and one-sheet generation before it matters in a real campaign.
Once those five are done, the rest of the platform reveals itself as the recipient needs it — Track Vault when they want to send a demo, the merch integration when they have product to sell, the SMS list when they're ready to add that channel.
Gift vs buying Pro directly
If you're considering gifting Pro to yourself (effectively pre-paying for an annual subscription), the math is the same as buying Pro directly. The gift mechanism is built for the case where the buyer and the recipient are different people.
If you're a label or management company considering buying Pro subscriptions for a roster of artists, contact BCKSTG directly — there may be volume options for managing multiple subscriptions under one account, including the Label and Agency tiers built specifically for multi-artist organizations.
Gift Pro for Latin music artists
For Spanish-speaking artists or English-speaking gifters who know Spanish-speaking artists, BCKSTG Pro is a relevant gift because the platform is bilingual end-to-end. The recipient's fan page works in EN and ES based on visitor language; their email Guest List can segment by language; the Release Kit generates content in both languages.
For Mexican, Puerto Rican, Colombian, Argentine, and other Latin American artists building careers across multiple markets, the tools that handle bilingual operations natively are rare. Most music platforms are English-first with Spanish as an afterthought. BCKSTG was designed bilingual from the platform level, which makes the gift specifically useful for artists working in both markets — reggaetón, urbano, regional mexicano, cumbia, and trap latino artists in particular often have audiences split across the US and a home country, and a bilingual fan page is operationally relevant from day one.
What doesn't make a good gift
To set expectations clearly — BCKSTG Pro is a gift that works best for active or aspiring music professionals. It's not the right gift for:
- A casual music listener who doesn't release music themselves
- A fan of a specific artist (the gift goes to the recipient, not to the artist they're a fan of)
- Someone who already has a non-BCKSTG full music platform setup they're not planning to change
The gift works when it gives the recipient infrastructure they can use immediately. It doesn't work when it's well-intentioned but unaligned with what the recipient is actually doing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cancel a gift after purchase?
Refunds on gift purchases follow standard subscription refund policy. The gift can be cancelled before the recipient redeems it; once redeemed, it functions as a paid subscription and is non-refundable.
What if the recipient already has a Pro subscription?
The gift extends their existing subscription by the gift duration. If they have an annual subscription that runs through June, and you give them a one-year gift redeemed in March, their subscription extends through June of the following year.
Can I send a personalized message with the gift?
Yes. The gift purchase flow includes a message field. Your message is delivered with the redemption code.
What if the recipient doesn't make music yet?
The gift can sit unredeemed until they're ready. If a relative graduating from music school plans to start releasing music in six months, gifting Pro now and letting them redeem when they're ready works. The gift duration begins on the redemption date, not the purchase date.
Are there other tier options for gifting?
Currently, BCKSTG Gift covers Pro subscriptions. Label, Agency, and Media tier subscriptions are managed directly through the BCKSTG sales process for organizational accounts rather than through the gift system.
